The Middle East Network – LibMod September 15-16, 2025; Berlin, Germany

On September 15–16, 2025, the Middle East Network, organized by LibMod – Zentrum Liberale Moderne, successfully concluded its fifth (third in person) plenary meeting in Berlin. MENA2050 supported this initiative, which has for the past year brought together Israelis, Palestinians, and regional representatives committed to seeking a path beyond conflict and toward peace.

Addressing Gaza: Humanitarian Urgency and Political Futures

The first day focused on one of the most pressing questions: What next for Gaza? Experts and participants explored immediate humanitarian challenges, strategies for achieving a lasting ceasefire, and the complex issue of political transition. Discussions considered the role of the Palestinian Authority, proposals for a transitional commissioners’ council, and the potential deployment of multinational forces. Contributions from some participants offered concrete perspectives on how to navigate both the humanitarian crisis and political impasse.

Rethinking the Two-State Solution

The second day opened with reflections on the prospects of the Two-State Solution. Inputs from some speakers examined the responsibilities of both Israelis and Palestinians in rebuilding trust and accountability.

The debate then expanded to the role of regional actors and the responsibility of the US and the EU. These exchanges underscored that while local actors carry the primary burden, international and regional players must create an enabling environment for meaningful negotiations and long-term stability.

Impact and Next Steps

The closing sessions turned inward, asking: What impact has this network had on its participants so far? and Where do we go from here? The reflections revealed that beyond policy debates, the network has built rare channels of people-to-people dialogue, fostering trust across divides that often seem insurmountable. Plans were laid to extend these exchanges, including upcoming university events and further grassroots initiatives.

A Shared Vision for Peace

The fifth plenary demonstrated that even amid war and terror, there is space for dialogue and constructive imagination. MENA2050 remains committed to supporting these efforts, helping to articulate an innovative regional vision where the replacement of regional conflicts by regional cooperation are not abstract hopes but practical goals shaped through dialogue and collaboration.
